Reach out the Good News

154

2nd Week of Ordinary Time (25th January, 2019)

First Reading: Acts 22:3-16
Gospel: Mk 16:15-18

In the first reading, the acts of the apostles, Saint Paul is telling us about his transformation from a sinner to a follower of Jesus and then a saint.

When Saul was out and persecuting people for doing nothing wrong, one day God appears as a bright light to him and he listens to Jesus saying, “Saul, Saul why do you persecute me?” Saul did not know who it was speaking, then the voice said, “I am Jesus the Nazarene.”

Then Saul asked, Lord, what should I do? and God guides him. The rest is history.

That moment of instant transformation was the turning point in the life of Paul and also the life of millions of people who listened to the good news or are influenced by Saint Paul.

As we proceed to the Gospel of Mark today, Jesus is asking his eleven disciples to proclaim the good news to the world.

Saying that whoever listens and believes will be saved and those who don’t, will be condemned.

The signs that will be associated with believers are:

  • They will cast out devil
  • They will catch snakes by hand.
  • The deadliest poison can do no harm to them.
  • They will speak in tongues
  • They will heal the sick.

In many of the retreat centres, prayer assemblies, adoration and most often during the holy mass we witness many of these happening.

These are the gifts we ought to value than the physical gifts that we receive.

Each one of us can be blessed with any of these gifts through prayer, confession and good deeds.

For, we have a forgiving and giving God. Amen.
