Our Shepherd awaits our call

72

4th Week of Ordinary Time (9th February, 2019)

First Reading: Heb 13:15-17, 20-21
Gospel: Mk 6:30-34

Jesus had sent out his disciples in pairs to the neighbouring districts and after that they re-joined and shared what they did and taught to the people.

People were coming and going that the apostles had no time even to eat. Noticing this, Jesus asked his apostles to move to a lonely place and to take rest for a while.

They then went in a boat to a lonely place. But people saw where they were heading to and reached even before the disciples could reach.

Jesus knew that the people were like sheep without a Shepherd. HE felt pity on them and taught them at length.

Everyone needs rest after working hard, so that we can continue our mission with renewed energy. In Genesis, we learn that on the 7th day, God took rest; hence it is important for us as well to take rest. This also helps us to review the work that we did and continue to do it better.

The people are like sheep. We do not know where to go and what to do.

When a difficult situation arises, we panic and search for a Shepherd.

Not being aware of the fact that we have the word od God as our instruction manual and yes, Jesus is feeling pity on us, HE will guide us. We just need to ask him. HE will provide. Amen.
