Christ’s Sacrificial Love

148

There is a carving of a lamb in the roof of the Cathedral at Werden, Germany, with a story behind it. During the construction of the Cathedral, a man was at work on the roof when a rope holding the scaffolding snapped. The worker was pitched headlong into the air and to the ground.
The yard (back garden/ courtyard) below was cluttered with huge blocks of stones. But the man escaped unhurt! Between two blocks of stones. But the man escaped unhurt! Between two blocks stood a lamb nibbling (eating/ chewing/ biting) grass. The falling man landed smack (punch/ slap/ strike) on the lamb, crushing it to death.
The lamb saved the man from a fatal (deadly/ incurable) fall. In gratitude for his deliverance the worker obtained permission to carve a lamb out of stone and place it in the roof at the spot from which he fell.
Jesus Christ is “the Lamb of God Who takes away our sins.” Christ brought us freedom from sin and death by laying down his own life for us.
