3rd Week of Ordinary Time (30th January, 2019)
First Reading: Heb 10:11-18
Gospel: Mk 4:1-20
In the Gospel of Mark today, Jesus is telling his disciples a parable. The parable of the sower and the seeds. Some seeds fell on the path and birds came and ate it. Some of them fell on Rocky ground which had very less soil; it started to grow, the moment son came up it came up it withered. But some fell on good soil that gave a great harvest.
Some of the people assembled around asked Jesus to explain the parable. Jesus explains that the word of God is the seed which fell on the path are those ears which didn’t even listen to the word of God and on the rocky grounds are those people who listened but forgot quite soon. But those people who listened, observed and implemented those guidelines into their lives are considered as seeds falling on good soil. Those are the people who listen and live according to the word of God. They will have great harvest. Here, what it means to us is to look into our own lives ; which category you and I belong to .Do we belong to the people who just discard the word of God or we just listen to it forget the next moment not realising the value of it or are we the right people who listen to it , understand it ,internalise it, implement and show to others to follow us .Are we harvesting the way that Jesus that Jesus showed us ? Are we the real fertile soil where if the word of God when sawn, grows in multi fold and gives a great harvest.? Yes, we are…. Amen.
